Beijing to build world's busiest airport

Beijing, the Chinese capital city, will begin the construction of an airport that is likely to become the world's busiest airport. The construction for this mega airport will begin this year and the name of the airport is yet to be finalized. According to reports published in China Daily, the new proposed airport will replace the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta in the US as the busiest airport in the world.
The estimated cost of building the new airport will be around 30 billion yuan (around $5 billion).
The new airport will handle more than 130 million passengers and 5.5 million tonnes of cargo annually and it will have nine runways.
The new airport will cover an area of around 27 square km.
The airport is located in Daxing, 46km south of Tiananmen Square and the construction work is expected to be completed in October 2017.
Beijing currently has two airports -- the Beijing Nanyuan Airport and the Beijing Capital International Airport.
The construction of the new airport is expected to give a new boost to the global economic powerhouse that has over the years achieved a sustained growth rate of over eight percent. The Chinese impressive growth story is being scripted at a time when the West is reeling under acute financial crisis.
