According to senior government officials, in the next few years Gujarat will witness the setting up of about twelve Special Economic Zones (SEZs). They said that these new SEZs will bring in investments worth over Rs 42,000 crores. Quite a few real estate developers are keen to set up special economic zones in Gujarat. According to DNA reports one such developer Sealand Ports has drawn up plans to set up a SEZ at Kutch that will be a multi-product one. The developer expects an investment of Rs 14,700 crore in this venture.
Another developer by the name of Makson Group has a proposal of setting up two SEZs. The group expects an investment of over Rs 14,100 crore in these two SEZs. Out of the two projects one has already been approved and the other proposal is pending approval. There is another proposal by Avash Logistic Park which plans to set up a Free Trade Warehousing Zone at Kutch. An investment of Rs 4,400 crore is expected from this proposed set up.
Government officials feel that the current buoyant economy of Gujarat is the reason why SEZ developers are coming here. The development of SEZs will bring in lots of investments and will also help create jobs.
