Dreams of affordable houses creating problems in Maharashtra

A top realtors body alleged on Wednesday that the ambitious plan to construct 5,00,000 affordable homes in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts in Maharashtra is gathering much dust due to inaction on the part of state government. The impugned plan was jointly initiated by Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI) and Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI), with the objective of bridging the gap between housing demand and supply and the increasing realty prices. The frustration of the realtors came out on the second anniversary of inaction after the signing of MoU with the state government for the purpose of finding solutions on the housing and increase of slums in the country’s commercial capital. At this occasion the realtors, aggrieved by the policies of the state government demanded a single window clearance system so as to expedite the realty projects and ensure timely completions. An office bearer also alleged that not a single file pertaining to the building proposals has been preferred to their respective approving authorities since past 18 months which nearly adds a two year delay in such projects. According to Mr. Gundecha, President, MCHI, on one hand the proposals are not being cleared by th authorities leading to short supplies on the other hand it has now become fashionable to blame the developers for in increasing prices.
